Iyengar yoga workshop with Christian Pisano and June Whittaker

Christian Pisano has been practising Iyengar Yoga for many years. More than 20 years ago he lived in Pune for several years in order to be close to and learn directly from his guru, B.K.S. Iyengar. His philosophical inclinations are those of the non-dual approaches, especially that of the ‘Trika’ system known as Kashmir Shaivism. He is one of only 3 western Iyengar teachers worldwide who hold the Advanced Senior certificate and is the only European teacher with this level. He continues to study with the Iyengars annually in Pune and, with his wife, June, is the joint Director of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Nice, France.

June Whittaker Pisano, after an earlier life in classical ballet, searched for another discipline and inspired by the sophistication and excellence of the teaching, found Iyengar Yoga in London more than 25 years ago. June moved to Nice in 1999 to co-direct the Institut de Yoga Iyengar de Nice with Christian. She holds a Senior 3 certificate and travels to India annually to continue her studies at the mother institute with the Iyengar family.

A Journey Through The Chakras with James French

James is an international teacher specialising in Vinyasa Flow, Traditional Hatha Yoga and Tantra. In this workshop, poses will be held for longer allowing us to meditate in them. In doing so we begin to explore how we can directly affect and influence our moods, temperament and health by charging specific energy centres and pathways. We will experience the secrets of “sublimation” – how to convert lower energies that do not serve us (anger, fear) into higher ones that do (love, trust).

If you have ever felt confused or left behind when a teacher mentions energy, prana or chakras – this workshop is the perfect introduction. We will begin with a lecture but the emphasis will be firmly on the practical allowing us to explore and experience for ourselves.

James’ mix of great tunes and friendly, relaxed style creates a positive, supportive atmosphere in which beginners and yogis can practice together and discover the magic of Yoga.

Making Waves: Setting the Spine Free – A Scaravelli Inspired Workshop with Lara Stapleton

Waves are a part of our nature. Emotions, the nervous system and even gravity moves in waves. Due to lifestyle, stress, deep-rooted emotional blockages and injury, many of us have lost touch with the natural wave-like movement of our spine, which gives the body structure and support and allows us to move freely.

This workshop focuses on the integral part that the diaphragm (breath) plays in the mobility of the spine and how the inability to breathe properly affects its function, flow and natural wave.

Moving through the wave of each breath within the posture will allow you to work on areas of resistance, tension and injury in a deep and nurturing way. Listening and being attentive to the breath, connecting to gravity, primal roots and space, will invite the possibility for the spine to move freely and for the body to open up and unfold deeply from within.

By observing the textures of the mind and coming into a calm and conscious state of being with the breath you will integrate intelligence into the practice so that it becomes nurturing, effortless and free of tension. From this space you can set the spine free and allow it to move like a beautiful wave.
