Splits & Handstands for Yogis Workshop with Sylvia Garcia

Saturday 11th May 2024 2.30pm - 7pm

Splits for Yogis 2.30pm - 4.30pm

Handstands for Yogis 5pm - 7pm

Price: £45

In this course, Sylvia will guide you through intelligent sequencing to move you along your journey into Hanumanasana (monkey pose), or splits as well the foundations of handstands and its practical application to a yoga flow.

During our splits session we will be focusing on tight hamstrings, quadriceps and psoas muscles along with the glutes — which will need to be strong in order to ensure a safe practice. You will come away with a greater understanding of what is involved in this posture, and with the tools to continue improving it in your own regular practice.

During the handstand workshop we will be looking at handstand alignment from an acrobatic perspective in order to find a straight line that is not only more functional for transitions but much safer for the shoulder girdle than the more commonly seen yoga handstand alignment. Sylvia taught herself how to stand on her hands over many years but really saw a huge change in her inversion practice when she started training it acrobatically. In this workshop she will share tips on how to improve your line, find balance and look at some of the transitions we commonly see in flow yoga styles today such as Dharma and Rocket.

This course is suitable for all levels and options will be given to suit any range of flexibility.

We recommend booking the course as a whole to get the most out of it, however it’s also possible to book into the workshops individually.

Full moon Group Sound Meditation with Craig Rogerson

Price: £20 in studio

As the first of two full moons in August, the Sturgeon moon offers us a moment to check in with ourselves and the intentions we set earlier in the year. This session shall be relaxing, offering a moment for us all to reset. A recharging, nourishing moment shall also be celebrated as an aid for bringing those intentions to fruition, or perhaps helping us to get back on track with them. Join us in this community moment as all are invited to drift away to wherever the sound may take you.

Craig is an IPHM certified Sound Therapy Practitioner providing Individual treatments and Group Sound Meditations through his practice ‘Soundworks’. His Group Sound Meditations utilise the strengths of many instruments and sound tools to create calm, safe and welcoming spaces for all to relax in. You will be guided to a restful state by the sounds of Himalayan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, the Gong, chimes and kalimbas - and not to forget, the beautiful sounds of the Handpan.

Stimulating frequencies create parasympathetic reactions that allow us to clear blockages whether emotional, mental or physical. Work with such sound tools can be detoxing, balancing, de-stressing and uplifting.

While yoga mats, bolsters and blankets are provided, you are welcome to bring your own cushion should you wish.

Sound is proven to be more effective when our eyes are covered. Craig's handmade silken eye covers will be available at the Yogaloft reception for £4, or feel free to bring your own shawl, scarf or eye mask.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to register and set up your space in the studio. Latecomers cannot be admitted as it will disrupt the progress of the session.”

NB - If you are pregnant of have a pacemaker fitted, please contact Craig prior to booking.
