In her first workshop for Yogaloft, Angeli is thrilled to be presenting this session looking more deeply into the series of Warrior Poses.

The 5 Warrior Poses (yes there are five!) teach us strength, vitality, compassion, patience and resistance. They are a powerful way to harness our energy for good. They are also used repetitively in most yoga practices and correct positioning and optimal transitions can help avoid strain on the joints and poor use of the breath. Correct alignment, directionality and the confident and comfortable holding of the Warriors is intrinsic to our development as yogis.

Using playful, uplifting and clearly explained techniques, Angeli will spend some time breaking down each warrior pose, isolating and understanding how every part of the body gets involved in creating these beautiful shapes. Having worked on our stability, alignment and strength, we will then build them into beautiful, flowing sequences that can be taken home to practise so that we can always find our warrior however little time we have to get on our mats.

What to Expect

  • Warm up: Using the breath, establishing contact with the core, limb strength-building

  • Warriors 1-5: Optimal positioning, directionality, how to hold and maintain

  • Sequencing: Building up a flow through each of the warrior poses

  • Warm down: Through an inversion (you get to choose according to your experience and feeling on the day), back opening and spine twists

  • Finally: Rest and light breath work to calm the whole system

This workshop will benefit anyone who regularly attends Hatha or Vinyasa classes and who would like to work on their alignment, transitioning and pose accuracy in order to feel the power of the warrior and to protect their body as they move through these fantastic poses.
